In this part of the Home Gym Buyers Guide series I go through a few key points to look at and consider when buying a barbell for your own home gym.
I highly recommend the Texas Power Bar which can be bought from here on 0% finance. I've had this bar for over a year and a half now and I've never looked back. Once you have trained with a superior quality bar such as this one you will never want to use a "budget" bar again. Texas Power Bar
Pros:
Amazing deep and sharp knurling that helps to increase your grip
Competition thickness
Versatile stiff bar, more flex than a cheap bar but not as whippy as a Deadlift bar
Smooth, maintenance free rotating sleeves
Black Oxide coated so doesn't rust like chromed bars
Cons:
Expensive!!
Whilst the Texas Power Bar should be high on your list of "barbells to buy", if you are on a budget but still want a quality barbell then strength shop do one that is 28mm, sharp knurled but has a 700lb rating (not that it really matters to mere mortals like us)... it also has end caps. I have no experience of the bar myself but if it wasn't for the fact I had my heart set on a Texas Power Bar since I laid eyes on one... I would have probably gone for this bar:
Don't forget this is only a basic guide to choosing a standard olympic barbell. There are many different types and styles of barbells out there that I will cover in later editions of Home Gym Buyers Guide.
Thanks for watching!
