In this part of my Home Gym Buyers Guide series I look at the different types of flooring media available to the consumer, covering the most suitable types.

I look at plywood, foam tiles, rubber mats, stable mats and of course, lifting platforms. Lifting platforms are VERY expensive but you can actually make your own for a fraction of the cost by following the instructions on this website:

Be sure to check Strength Shops clearance section every Thursday as the often have flooring for very cheap prices:

A few basic ideas of suitable materials for flooring in a home gym are:

  • Rubber stable mats (used for horses, very thick)

  • 18mm or thicker Plywood

  • General "soft mats" for gymnastics, good for general coverage

  • Workshop mats

  • Thick rubber sheeting, available from industrial suppliers

Hope this helps when choosing your flooring for your own home gym!

Thanks for watching!
