In this edition of my Home Gym Buyers Guide series, I take a look at the things to look out for when buying a bench.

Cliffs:

1. Rating of the bench is the most important factor. It needs to be able to hold your bodyweight plus the amount of weight you can lift... and about tree fiddy more to be safe!

2. Height of bench is important. If you got short legs of manlet stumpiness like me, then a higher bench is not going to work very well for you. Width is something that isn't as important but you must take into consideration that many powerlifting federations have a minimum width for their bench, so it may be a good idea to get one of similar dimensions so that you are used to it.

3. You need to make the decision whether or not spending the extra money on a FID U/ Utility bench is worth it vs a normal Flat Bench and if you will use all the variations or not.
