This question was asked of me in regards to is it ok / can you still drink alcohol and have a successful cut for fat loss. In this video I go over my outlook on it.
Short answer: Yes.
Whether you are actually cutting down to low body fat or just looking to lose some fat you can include alcohol into your plan but as with everything... MODERATION IS KEY.
You have to weigh up the pros and cons to drinking. Will it set you back? Will it set you up to start binging? Will it make you unwind and relax and help you to push harder for the remainder of the cut? These are all questions you need to ask yourself because it really comes down to what you think will happen.
I went through a period on my journey where I dropped all alcohol. I was actually pretty tee total at one point. I was in the best shape of my life too... I was very lean and achieving that goal of being "shredded". However... it came at a price. I had no moderation and I ended up a bit of a miserable sad git. I would turn down social events, not because I didn't want to go but because I didn't want the temptation of alcohol. This is not healthy. Life is more than obsessing over your body fat levels. Life is about enjoying experiences and time with others.
If you enjoy drinking socially then you should absolutely continue to do so. Just remember to make it fit into your calories or at least make some adjustments to your weekly intake to "offset the damage". You could of course just let whatever happens happen, as in the long run, one night of partying isn't going to make a big difference. If you are hammering the bottle every week.. you may find it hinders your progress. As I said.. Moderation is key. One thing that has to be considered is that being drunk greatly reduces your inhibitions and you may find yourself not caring about your goals anymore. This is when you start to teeter into drinking way more than you planned to and then possibly binge eating afterwards. This is why I like to set aside a good 2500kcal extra if I know I am going out on the razz, as that way whatever happens... happens.
Quick Tips:
1. Drink lower calorie drinks. Vodka with diet coke is around 60kcal. Make sure to get a tall glass so that it lasts longer.
2. Offset some calories through the week if you are going to have a big sesh. if you make an additional 500kcal a day deficit through carbs Monday to Friday that would give you an extra 2500kcal to "go wild" on your night out without having to worry about anything.
3. Try to limit boozing to once or twice a month. Always go to social events but offer to drive, that way you have a reason for "not drinking" / no peer pressure.
4. Remember your goals. Remember what it is you are trying to achieve and consider what you want short term in respect to what you want long term.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for watching!
