Can You Build a Good Physique at Home?

An older video I thought I would revisit for the site. In this video I take a look at whether or not you can actually build a decent physique at home with a home gym setup. There's this idea that unless you train in an intense, blood, sweat and tears style old school gym that you aren't serious about your training. It's something I have had commented on my videos on the channel in fact. Somebody asked me when I was going to start training at a real gym, as if I don't, then I'll never be "serious" about my training. I mean... spending thousands of pounds on a fully kitted home gym is just what the part timers do right? The fact is, it really doesn't matter WHERE you train; it all boils down to HOW you train... and that you do it consistently. Back when I used to train with my friend at a commercial gym we both used to look pretty shit for the effort we put in. That's because we just did any old shit everytime we went. No programming, no tracking progression, we just used to roll in, do some curls and roll out. Since it was a real gym though surely we should have looked like serious lifters? Here's why a Home Gym is definitely "serious":
No waiting for specific pieces of equipment, nothing is holding you back or making you change your programming for that day.
No distractions.
It's open 24/7 365 days a year, so you never have to worry about a gym being closed.
You can equip it with anything you need, you don't have to ask a gym owner to "consider" buying whatever kit you need as YOU are the owner.
There are downsides to home gyms however. You may end up training alone and may find that you don't feel as motivated as you did with people there to egg you on. You might struggle with some exercises without a spotter to help you rack and unrack. You might even become a bit more "relaxed" with your training because it is so easy to just go back in the house and do something else. Not to mention the biggest downside of all... home gyms are expensive! To get an idea of home gym cost watch this video I did when I first set up my home gym. All of the above cons are of course greatly dependant on the individual. I won't lie to you, having a home gym requires you to be incredibly self motivated. No one is going to pursuede you to train. No one cares if you hit your goals. It is all down to you and whatever you are trying to achieve. I've had my home gym a good few years now, it is definitely the single most best investment I have ever made and when people ask how much I have paid for it, I tell them and then say I would happily pay it all over again because it would be more than worth it.
Thanks for watching!
