Should I train 5/3/1?

Another video from the old days of the channel. Around this time I had been following the very popular training method known as 5/3/1 created by powerlifter Jim Wendler. A question was asked as to wether or not you should start to follow this method so in this video I go over my insight on the matter. The way I see things there is nothing really stopping anyone from doing any program. Your limbs won't fall off just because you haven't had exactly 2.68 years of training experience. If anything, trying a more advanced routine may give you an appreciation of what is required to be an elite level lifter. For example, some people run Sheiko or Smolov and find that they simply cannot complete it. Their bodies just aren't used to that level of training frequency, volume and intensity. Your bodies ability to train harder, longer and more often comes in time by building up your work capacity. A beginner simply will not be able to match a long term advanced lifter in terms of workload (unless they are some kind of genetic freak!) With 5/3/1 however, although many people deem it to be an "advanced" routine it is actually very simple in it's structure and workload. There are only 3 main working sets after all! I know of several people, including myself, who have ran 5/3/1 as beginners and have made great progress. The sessions don't need to be long which a lot of people like, you get to tailor your assistance work around one of his presets or make up your own to suit your goals. It keeps you interested with the "AMRAP" sets (as many reps as possible) as what I have found for a lot of people is they lose interest in a routine, not that it isn't giving them results. So by all means, give it a try. You may find it is the perfect training routine for you.

Thanks for watching!
