In this video I talk about what I have found whilst using the Nike Romaleos V2 Shoe for the past year. Basically it comes down to this one question....
Why do you want them?
If you want them because you have poor dorsiflexion and it is affecting your squat depth then these, or any weightlifting shoe, are not for you I'm afraid. What you need to do is work on improving your dorsiflexion and any other underlying mobility issues.
If you want a solid shoe that is more stable than any common flat shoe (chucks etc) then a proper weightlifting shoe like the Romaleos is bang on the money. You can argue that you can just use a wooden board or 5lb plates for heel elevation... I have done this in the past and will say that no, there is no comparison, purely because with the board / plate method you have to be aware of where you are actually stepping... throw in some heavy weight to the mix and you are just making the lift risky.
Want to do lifts like the snatch / clean and jerk? These are perfect. It's what they are intended for.
You can even use these shoes for bencing, some people find it gives them better leg drive however I am not one of those people. I prefer the flat shoe for benching although I may give it another try.
Don't forget though... these are a pricey shoe. They are a quality shoe with a lot of thought into them, however you would be able to get a heeled shoe for less. Here is a shoe I was considering buying based off the reviews but decided I wanted the shiny mutant romaleos:
Strength Shop Lions (£47.99):
and these ones are now available which look less horrific...
Strength Shop Coyotes (£64.99):
Whatever you choose to do make sure you follow the first thing I said... don't buy them just because your mobility sucks balls... sort it out rather than cover it up.
Thanks for watching!
